This located at near the Kum River,is the place where  Kim Tae-Gon landed with Bishop Ferreol and Father Daveluy on Oct 12,1845,shotly after becoming the first korean priest.

Yosan [여 산 ]

In 1868,many catholics were hunted down there and in the hills and valleys around KumSan , Chinsan and Kosan area.However,among the many martyrs killed at here,only 22 are known by name.
Many were beheaded at SupjungYi and market place and others were dispatched Yosan prison by a differently But equally lethal mode of execution
Wet rice applied paper was spread over the face of the helpless victim,causing a slow death by suffocation.

ChonHo [천 호]

By 1840, many catholics had already fled to the foothills of Chon Ho Mountain in north Jeollla Province.
They were able to form a christian community there and the ChonHo Mission also continued its catholic tradition to this day.
The grave of three martyrs are located over here;
Saint Peter Son Seon-Ji Bartholomew  Jung Mun-Ho  and Joseph Han Wan-Seo

They had been arrested together and were martyred in 1866 at SupJungYi near here

SupjUngYi [숲 정 이]

Jeon Ju was the cradle of catholicism for the South-western.
In 1784,the apostle of this region,Augustine Yu Hang-Gum  who was a major figure in korean church history,began his evangelization of the area.
Major churchmen killed here included

In 1839, Peter Shin Dae-Bo , Yi Dae-Kwon, Yi Il-on ,Jung Tae-Bong , and Peter Kim Tae-Kwon

In 1866, there were the Saints,Bartholomew Jung Mun-Ho ,peter  Son Seon-Ji  Joseph Han Won-Seo,Peter Cho Hwa-Seo ,Peter Yi  Myung-Seo  and peter Jung Won-Ji

PungNam-Mun [풍 남 문]

This is the JeonJu's south Gate where leaders of church,such as Augustine Yu Hang-Gom,who was the apostle of South-western region.and the first korean martyrs,Paul Yun Chi-Jung  and james Kwan Sang-yon who refused to offer sacrifices to their faith.
The head of Augustine Yu was impaled on a pike at the tower of this Gate as a public warning to the peoples and catholics.

ChiMyongJa-San [치명자 산]

This is a mountain peak burial site for six members of Augustine Yu Hang-Gom 's family who were martyred in 1801.
In 1797,John Yu Jung-Chul ,the eldest son of Augustine Yu,married Lutgarda  Yi Sun-Yi a women of noble birth from seoul.Father James Chu Mun-Mo blessed the marriage.Although married,the couple wished to fulfill their lifelong desire to live a life of virginity which was not easy in the society of those days.

However,the couple did live for four years in a manner as a Joseph and mary had until received into glory in the ShinYu Persecution of 1801.
For this reason, this area often called ;
" The mountain of Lutgarda" taken from christian name in respect and admiration for her virture.After their martyrdom the two holy virgins were buried in the family burial plot of the husband.
