SongMo-Dang [¼º¸ð´ç]


Our Lady's court is a large grass courtyard and shrine dedicated to the Blessed virgin Mary,on a hilltop next to the offices of the DaeGu Archdiocese,The first ordinary of the diocese,Bishop Florian Demanage.M.E.P ,built the impressive Lourdes Grotto in 1911. He took the opportunity then to invoke Our Lady of Lourdes as patroness of the Diocese.

In 1918,The beautiful grass courtyard which front the grotto was added.
When Pope John Paul II visited DaeGu 1984,he stopped briefly at this place for prayer.
A memorial shrine to Saint John Lee Yoon-Il  is also located here and contains the Saint's graves which was transferred to the site in 1987.


Holy Martyrs Catholic Church [º¹ÀÚ¼º´ç]


This was dedicated as a memorial Church in 1970 on the 100th Anniversary of the Byong In persecution of 1866.
The graves of three martyrs who James Ho In-Baek ,Luke Kim Jong-Ryun and Peter Lee Yang-Deung  are enshrined in front of the Crucifixion scene at the Church.
They were beheaded for the faith on Aug 14,1868 in Ulsan-City.

The martyrs had been living in hiding with their families in the deep mountain and they were arrested by police from Kyong Ju and brought to Ulsan for execution.
Park Jo-Ah the wife of James Ho,witnessed his martyrdom with remarkable courage and faith,She recovered the bodies and buried them herself by the River bank as soon as persecution ended in 1887. The martyrs remains were exhumed and transferred to Mountain near village.
later the descendants of the martyrs reburied them in a catholic cemetery in DaeGu .


KwanDok-Jung in DaeGu City [´ë±¸ °ü´öÁ¤]


This is located at behind the Red Cross Hospital and was 55 martyrs executed.
In 1867, Saint  Lee Yoon-il was martyred here as were Agatha Kim Hee-Seung and many others.
Christian prisoners were also brought to DaeGu from Sang Ju county and Sun heung County.
Among them, Park Sa-Yi ,Kim  Sa-Gon,Lee Chong-Il and companions were beheaded after 13 years imprisonment.


Sal Ti [»ì Ƽ]


This was the first mission station in BuSan.It is located beyond Kanweol-Gol in a valley deep within Kanweol Mountain range.From its begining the village has been catholic's resident.It was settled and named by people who gathered there to escape religious persecution.
a place of honor is reserved in the village for its martyrs, Peter Kim Yong-Jae who he was arrested in 1866 and imprisoned in Ulsan with James Ho ,Luke Kim and Peter Lee were beheaded.
Peter Kim died from blood poisoning,the result of his severe beating and torture.
The catholics of SalTi were strong in the faith and devoted to their religious throughout the persecution period.So many vocations have come from this small area
Bishop and many priests and numerous religious that it is justly titled the "Village of Vocations"


Jang Dae-Bol (open place) [Àå´ë¹ú]


This is near the Ulsan,
On Aug 14,1868,It was a site of the martyrdom of James Ho In-Baek Luke Kim Jong-Ryun and Peter Lee yang-Deung .
Three christians and sought refuge from the terror of the Byong In persecution of 1866 in the mountain reaches of UnYang,Kyong Sang Province.They arrested and brought to this Place for execution.

A witness described it in a powerful vignette on the joy in which christians often embraced violent death for the love of christ.
He wrote that the Holy martyrs ate their last meal in the presence of crowd, which had gathered to see the execution.
After eating the simple fare,they blessed themselves in a firm voice and cheerfully waved to the amazed by standers.
They were dispatched by the sword Just before the died, james Ho noticed his wife who was watching over from a distance.He waved in her direction,prayed "the Angelus" and with a radiant countenance was decapitated.


The grave of Anthony Jung [Á¤ ¾ÈÅä´Ï¿À ¹¦]


He was born of the noble family in 1822.he married a catholic woman,her last name is Yoon.Eventually, the wife's entire family became christian.
In 1866.Anthony Jung was arrested by police from Jin Ju County,Despite family pressure,he refused to renounce his faith.he was imprisoned in ChinJu,Kyong Sang Province.  and executed at the age of 45.His wife,who had loyally served her husband during harassment and family animosity after his martyrdom.
She left home never to return.The relatives buried the body of Anthony Jung without the decapitated head. For this reason,the grave is known to this day as "Mu Du Myo in korean means The grave without a head in english.


The grave of Joseph Yun Bong-Mun


He received baptism with his family.Hoping for a life free from persecution,he decided to strike out for Taema-Do Island located at between Korea and Japan.
While waiting for an opportunity to slip sway,he stayed at JinHae and moved about as a peddler selling writing brushes.
it was his custom to carry a catechism folded up inside his brush case.In this way,he taught the faith not only in JinHae but in KeoJe -Do Island and Ham-An as well.
Al thought official persecution had ended in 1887.minor regional persecution from traditional confucian antagonists continued unabated.
In 1888,Joseph Yun was arrested and sent to ChinJu prison where he was hanged for the faith.


The grave of Lawrence Park Tae-Sik  [ ¹Ú ·Î·»ÁÒÀÇ ¹¦]


He arrested with his elder brother and sent to DaeGu.The brother defected from the faith while in prison after brutal torture,however,Lawrence Park persevered.
When his family tried to buy his release,he adamantly refused to leave,Instead,to their dismay,he tried to bribe the jailers into killing him more quickly.
In Aug,1835, At the age of 35,Lawrence Park was martyred for the faith.


Oh Ryun-Dae [¿À·û´ë]


The remains of 8 martyrs of Busan area buried at this place. This shrine located in Dong Are section of southern Harbor City
And 4 graves are of the Lee Jung-Sik family also buried beside them are four others martyrs.
Lee Jung-Sik beheaded at this place in 1868, was both a catechist and a military officer. After his execution. The martyr's dedicated head was implaced on a pike for public display at the gate of the troop encampment in BuSan-City.


Ung Chon [¿õ õ]


When Japan invaded Korea in 1592,General Konishi Yukinaga encamped south of ChinHae in south Kyongsang -Do Province,because there were some catholic soldiers in his expeditionary army,Father Gregory de Cespedes. a Portuguese Jesuit was sent from Japan to minister to the people.

On Dec 29,1593,Father de Cespedes offered his first Mass in Korea.
Although he stayed here for a year and an half,the priest had no opportunity to evangelize any korean people because of the war.However,the Japanese army took many prisoners and sent them to japan as slaves.Some of them hearing the Gospel from Father de Cespedes and they were converted and baptized.
