Saint.Kim Tae-Gon was born on Aug 21,1821,in a large house in Solmoe,Tangjin-Gun County,central region.
Since many of his ancestors Kim Jin-Hu (great grand-father 1814)  Kim Han-hyun (grand-uncle 1816 killed) and Kim Je-jun (father1839) had been martyred.

Therefore, Kim Tae-Gon 's family became very poor.,when he was 7 year old, his family moved to Golbaemasil Namkok-ri,Yongin-gun County( Now here in called Mirinae), kyungki Province.
In 1836,Priest Maubant decided to dispatch 3 korean youths ( Kim Tae-Gon ,Choi Yang-up and  CHoi Bang-Je) to Macau to study western & catholicism when they was mere 15 year old.
They studied in there just before citizens's eruption in Macau on Mar 1842 since Jun 1837 for 6 years. During studying,they had to escape to Manila total of 2 times Aug 1838 and Apr 1840. And Unfortunately ,Choi  Bang-Je died in 1838.

Kim Tae-Gon was forced to finish the study since opium war in 1842 KimTae-Gon studied theology,philosophy,western science and he could speak English,French,Spanish and Chinese fluently.his ability to speak foreign languages helped him to pass through the chinese coast guards. In the meantime,Bishop Ferreol reached Macau early in 1840. he tried to across the Korea-china border,But it was in vain. He return to Mongolia, hoping to meet the korean envoys coming from korea to peking. he successfully met a korean catholic in 1842. But he found out that it was impossible to enter korea across the yalu and Tuman Rivers,the northern frontier.
By that time, Kim Tae-Gon  got on board at French warship as an interpreter for Admiral Cecile,the far-eastern Commander. Kim Tae-gon left the ship in the Yodong peninsula of China, and approached the korean catholic there among the korean envoys.
KimTae-Gon  heard from them that all the priests and many catholics had been killed,He also learned that his father had been killed because he sent his son to Macau,and that his mother Ko Ulsula  was begging even for food.
The severe persecution was over, but the catholic were still in the state of fear and horror, because many catholic were being detained in prison.

He really wants to enter to korea ,but situation in korea isn't allow him to pass the border anymore.
Kim Tae-Gon checked every spot of the northern frontier from coast to coast to find a route to bring French missionaries into country.his suffering during the long journey was beyond imagination.

He Finally met Bishop Ferreol in China then he ordained Deacon on Dec 1844 jill in China and also ordained priesthood on Aug 17,1845 by Bishop Ferreol in Shanghai China.
In Jan,1845 he reached seoul alone, but he didn't see his poor mother in order to avoid the danger of exposure,then he had to return to China again with 11 korean catholics with tiny boat.

On his way to China,they met a typhoon which lasted three days and three nights,two masts were broken.Foods was thrown into the sea to make the boat lighter,they had nothing to eat for three days. "To the screaming people , Kim Tae-Gon showed a Holy card of the Blessed Virgin Mary for consolation and encouragement.he himself was sick and afraid,but he didn't show his fear."

In Oct 12,1845,he nearly landed to Nabawi ,Iksan,soutnwestern with Bishop Ferreol and Father Daveluy in a small boat after a long stormy 42 days voyage across the yellow sea from Shanghai ,China.
Since he landed korea, he worked as a priest in many places for only 6 months.

In the meantime,he tried to introduce the French Missionaries,waiting in China into the country.He prepared a guide map and so on, and went to Yonpyong-Do Island to contact Chinese fishmen,who could convoy the map and information about the Korean church to the French missionaries in China.
He captured in Sunwi-Do Island then sent to haeju and then to Seoul.
KImTae-Gon's life was ended at the age of 25. It was a short life but he is still widely revered and loved due to his outstanding knowledge,fervent faitht and convincing eloquence.

Father.Kim Tae-Gon was sentenced to death on Sep 15,1846 directly by the king with the advice of his minister,and he was beheaded  at Saenamto on Sep 16,1846 .
Just before he was beheaded,He made the following short speech :

The last moment of my life is at hand.Listen to me carefully,it was for the sake of the church and God that I contacted to the foreigners
Now I die according to the will of God. So, a new life is about to begin for me.
Become Christian,if you want to obtain eternal happiness after your death.God will punish eternally those who have not known and loved Him "

And ......
The executioners took off Father kim's clothes,pierced his ears with arrows, sprinkled water on him,and threw a handful of plaster powder in his face,put two sticks under his arms and carried him on their shoulders making three rounds among the soldiers.
they forced Father Kim to kneel and hung his hair with a rope running through a hole of a flag pole.
When the rope was pulled,Father Kim's head was raised
Father kim said to them,

"Is the position of my head al right for you to cut ? then I'm ready,Cut off my head "
As son as his last talk ,12 soldiers danced around him with swords in their hands as if they were fighting.
One after the other,they struck at Father kim's neck,and his head fell to the ground at the eight hit.

The head of criminal was hung on top of a pole and the body was left in the site for three days according to the rule of state at that time, but Father kim's body was buried immediately in the site ,and was guarded by some soldiers.

33 days later, Yi Min-Sik who residing at near Golbaemasil in yong-In County, could successfully dug Father kim's body out at night,braving the watching guards, He carried Father kimm's body to Mirinae,his home village.
It took seven days to walk about 60 km long,and he could only traveled after nightfall.

Bishop Ferreol martyred in 1853, also buried beside Father kim according to his own desire.
He had said that

" You will never know how sad I was to lose this young native priest ! I have loved him as a father loved his son,it is a consolation for me to think of his eternal happiness"
